One Year Ago (V): First Trip to Woodlands

 Yes, I play here!

Baba is a Go fan. Since 2007, he has been to Guo Juan's Go workshop at Woodlands (Round top, NY) on memorial holiday every year.  The only year that he missed is 2010 because of me. Now, one year past, and it was memorial day again.  I felt the obligation of bringing Baba back to his wonder land. Beep, Beep! Baba, we were here, Woodlands.

When we arrived, the teacher, Guo Juan (郭鹃, the Chinese lady in the middle) and some other Go players were already there. Guo Juan is a 5 dan professional. She was in the Chinese National team for 5 years. Since the right side of the second character of her name is a bird (鸟), she flew from China all the way to the Netherlands and made her nest in Amsterdam [1]. She comes from Amsterdam twice a year to America for Go workshops. Memorial day Go workshop is one of them.

How could I let this great learning opportunity slip away? I took advantage of my height and always stood right in front of the Go board while Guo Juan was reviewing a game. Maybe, some day,  some where I will start to play Go.

Future Go Champ

Of course, I spent more time in no-Go activities. Two days out of the two and half days, the workshop would go for a walk after lunch to relax and refresh their minds. The first day, we went to a lake nearby.

One the way home, we met Mr. Turtle.

One the second day, we walked into a forest.

They always stopped by this beautiful creek.

Even though the weather was hot, the water was very cold.

Hi, Baba!

Hello, Mr. Jean-Claude. Mr. Jean-Claude is the organizer for this Go workshop and he is also in charge of cooking meals. He normally would bring Eva with him and Eva is the real chief. This year, Eva did not come and instead Jean-Claude's daughter came to help him. All the meals were still crafted by Eva. They were delicious!

Good food always needs good wine. Rick always brings good wine for the meals.

The front porch became my playground. I liked to climb the stairs and played with the entrance door. I pulled the door to get in and pushed it to get out (with the help of go players).

Intoxicatingly Amused

Can somebody let me out?

The front porch was also my racing track.

Did I tell you a good story?
